As we continue the celebration of the birth of our Savior for the next few days, I am going to take these moments to share my heart about those who surrounded Jesus during his birth. Today let’s reflect on the story of the wise men who came to celebrate, honor, and show their respect for the tiny baby.
God’s invitation extends beyond boundaries, cultures, and traditions.
The story of the wise men, or Magi, is a powerful reminder of how God’s guidance leads us to the greatest treasure—Jesus. Their journey, described in Matthew 2:1-12, was not easy. These learned men traveled a great distance, likely enduring hardships, following the light of a star that led them to the Savior.
“When they saw the star, they were overjoyed. On coming to the house, they saw the child with his mother Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him. Then they opened their treasures and presented him with gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh” (Matthew 2:10-11).
Their journey teaches us about perseverance and faith. Despite being outsiders to the Jewish faith, the Magi recognized the significance of Jesus’ birth and responded with worship and generosity. Their gifts were symbolic: gold for Jesus’ kingship, frankincense for His deity, and myrrh foreshadowing His sacrifice.
This Christmas season, consider your own journey to Jesus. What might God be calling you to bring before Him? It could be your time, talents, or a renewed commitment to trust Him in a particular area of your life. Like the Magi, our offerings are acts of worship that honor the King of Kings.
The wise men’s story also reminds us that Jesus’ light is for everyone. God’s invitation extends beyond boundaries, cultures, and traditions. Just as the star guided the Magi, His light still guides us today, drawing all people to His love.
As you celebrate Christmas this week, let the story of the wise men inspire you to seek Jesus with all your heart. May their devotion encourage you to offer your own gifts of worship and to share His light with others.
Reflection: Like the wise men, we are invited to seek Jesus with perseverance and faith. What gift of worship can you offer Him this season?
Prayer: “Lord, thank You for the light that guides us to You. Help me to seek You with all my heart and offer my best in worship. Amen.”
