Have you ever noticed how much light plays a part in our Christmas celebrations? From twinkling lights on trees to glowing candles in windows, light reminds us of the One who came to illuminate the world.

Today, He calls us to be light-bearers, reflecting His love and truth to a world still in need of His presence.

In John 8:12, Jesus says, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” His birth fulfilled what was prophesied in Isaiah 9:2: “The people walking in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of deep darkness a light has dawned.” Jesus didn’t just bring light; He is the Light.

Think about the star that led the wise men to Jesus (Matthew 2:9-10). It wasn’t just a celestial phenomenon; it was a divine invitation. God used that light to guide them to the Savior. Today, He calls us to be light-bearers, reflecting His love and truth to a world still in need of His presence.

The Christmas season is a beautiful time to pause and notice the ways God’s light shines in our own lives. It may be in the kindness of a stranger, a moment of peace during a busy day, or the comfort of His Word. These glimpses of light remind us that we are never truly alone.

This light also comes with a calling. Jesus says in Matthew 5:14-16, “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.” As followers of Christ, we are invited to let His light shine through us—in our actions, our words, and even our attitudes.

This Christmas, take a moment to reflect on where you’ve seen God’s light in your life. Maybe it’s in answered prayers, the kindness of a friend, or the quiet reassurance of His presence in tough times. Then, ask how you can share that light. It could be as simple as reaching out to someone who’s lonely or volunteering to serve others in need. When we let God’s light shine through us, we become part of His plan to brighten a darkened world.

As you celebrate Christmas today, let’s remember that Jesus’ light isn’t confined to a single season. It shines brightly year-round, giving us hope, joy, and purpose. Let’s carry His light with us wherever we go.

Reflection: Light shines brightest in darkness. How can you reflect the light of Christ in your relationships and daily life this season?

Prayer: “Jesus, You are the Light of the world. Help me to reflect Your love and truth, bringing light to those around me. Amen.”
