Does the holiday bring you (true) hope?

Christmas is a season filled with gifts, joy, and celebration, but it’s also an opportunity to reflect on the greatest gift of all: the hope we have in Jesus Christ—a hope that brings peace, renewal, and purpose even in life’s busiest or hardest moments.

The hope of the manger isn’t just wishful thinking; it’s a firm assurance rooted in God’s faithfulness.

In Isaiah 9:6, we read, “For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” Over 700 years before Jesus’ birth, God’s promise of hope was declared. This hope isn’t just wishful thinking; it’s a firm assurance rooted in God’s faithfulness.

When Jesus was born in Bethlehem, hope entered the world in the most unexpected way—not as a conquering king, but as a tiny, vulnerable baby. This reminds us that God often works through humble and surprising means, inviting us to trust His plans even when they differ from our expectations. The angels proclaimed to the shepherds in Luke 2:10-11, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord.” That good news wasn’t just for the shepherds or the people of that time; it’s for you and me today.

Whatever challenges or uncertainties you may be facing, Christmas reminds us that hope is alive. Jesus’ birth is proof that God’s promises are true and that He is always working for our good. Take time this week to thank Him for the hope He offers—a hope that never fades, even in life’s darkest moments.

As you prepare for Christmas, consider this: How can you share the gift of hope with those around you? A kind word, a small act of service, or simply being present can point others to the reason for the season.

Reflection: Hope often appears in unexpected ways. How might you look for and embrace God’s hope in your current season of life?

Prayer: “Lord, thank You for the hope You brought through Jesus. Help me to trust Your plans and share Your hope with others. Amen.”
