How to have true inner peace

Life can feel like a whirlwind sometimes, can’t it? Between trying to meet expectations, comparing ourselves to others, and worrying about what’s next, it’s so easy to get caught up in our own heads. And let’s be honest—that often just makes us feel more anxious. Thankfully, God has a better way for us to live.

The key to true peace is to get outside of yourself.

1 Peter 5:6-7 says: “Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that He may lift you up in due time. Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you.” This beautiful reminder gives us two key insights about how focusing on ourselves can impact our anxiety.

First, humility changes our perspective. When we choose to humble ourselves under God’s mighty hand, we’re acknowledging that we don’t have to control everything—and that’s such a relief! God’s got this, and His timing is always perfect. When we shift our focus to His power instead of our own limitations, we let go of the pressure to have it all figured out.

Second, God invites us to give Him all our worries. Think about that for a moment: the Creator of the universe wants you to hand over your anxieties to Him. When we fixate on our problems, they can feel overwhelming. But when we focus on God’s love and care, we find peace knowing He’s got it all under control. Letting go of those burdens we were never meant to carry is freeing.

Here’s something to consider today: What are you holding onto that’s making you feel anxious? What would it look like to trust God with those worries instead?

You can take some simple steps to start:

  • Begin your day with a quick prayer, asking God to take your worries. Try the prayer listed below!

  • Memorize I Peter 5:6-7 and remind yourself of it when anxiety sneaks in.

  • Write down what’s on your mind and give it over to God in prayer.

  • God loves you deeply and sees every challenge you’re facing. As you practice trusting Him and letting go, I pray you’ll feel His peace surrounding you, even in the busiest moments.

Reflection: When we shift our focus from ourselves to God, we experience freedom and peace. The key is to get outside of yourself.

Prayer: “Lord, help me release my anxieties to You. Teach me to trust Your timing and power, and to rest in Your care. Thank You for Your unfailing love and peace. Amen.”
