Are you allowing God to handle your stress?

We all face moments when fear feels overwhelming. It sneaks into our thoughts, whispers worst-case scenarios, and robs us of peace. But as followers of Christ, we don’t have to let fear take control. Instead, we can bring our fears to the One who is bigger than anything we’ll ever face.

If it’s big enough to worry about, it’s big enough to pray about.

The Bible warns us against “thinking our fears.” Instead, we are challenged to “pray to our fears!” Philippians 4:6 reminds us, “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.”

It’s easy to focus on the first part of that verse and feel like overcoming fear is just about suppressing anxiety. But the key lies in what comes next: bringing everything to God in prayer. When fear creeps in, it’s an invitation to pray. Every worry, every doubt, every fear is an opportunity to connect with God and invite His peace into our hearts.

God literally pleads with us to cast our cares and anxiety on Him! I Peter 5:6-7 encourages us: “Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.”

What a comfort to know that the God of the universe cares deeply for us! He invites us to cast—not gently place, but throw—our anxieties on Him. He’s not burdened or annoyed by our fears; He wants to carry them so we don’t have to. This is one of the most important skills to learn as a Christian!

So, how do we pray our fears to God? Start by naming them. Speak them out loud or write them down. Then, tell God how you’re feeling and ask for His help. Be honest—He already knows your heart. Thank Him for His faithfulness and trust that He’s working, even if you can’t see it yet.

Today, take a moment to pause and pray. Whatever is weighing on your heart, lay it at His feet. He’s ready to replace your fear with His peace.

Reflection: When I bring my fears to God, I’m reminded that He is in control. My anxieties lose their power as I rest in His promises and unchanging love.

Prayer: “Father, I surrender my fears to You. Help me trust Your care and faithfulness. Fill my heart with peace as I lean on Your strength. Amen.”
