4 ways to reduce your anxiety during the holidays
His invitation to rest reminds us that we are never alone in our struggles.
The holidays are a season of joy, but let’s be honest—it’s also a season of stress. Between gift shopping, family gatherings, and endless to-do lists, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed. But here’s the good news: Jesus invites us to find rest in Him.
In Matthew 11:28, Jesus says, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” What a beautiful reminder that we don’t have to carry the weight of anxiety alone! He’s ready to calm the storms in our hearts, just as He calmed the sea for His disciples.
When anxiety rises, remember the story in Mark 4:39. In the middle of a furious storm, Jesus simply said, “Peace! Be still!” and the wind and waves obeyed. If He has the power to calm the raging sea, He can surely quiet the worries in your soul.
Here are four practical steps to help lower your anxiety this holiday season:
Pause and Pray
When you feel anxiety creeping in, take a moment to pause. Bring your worries to God in prayer. Philippians 4:6-7 encourages us, “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.” Let His peace guard your heart and mind.Simplify Your Schedule
You don’t have to say “yes” to everything. Prioritize what matters most—time with loved ones, worship, and rest. Allow yourself the freedom to let go of perfection.Focus on Gratitude
Instead of dwelling on what’s undone or imperfect, shift your focus to the blessings in your life. Gratitude has a way of grounding us in God’s goodness.Seek His Presence Daily
Spend time in His Word and worship. Even five minutes a day can center your heart. Let His promises remind you that He is with you, even in the busyness.
This holiday season, let Jesus be your anchor. In Him, you’ll find the peace that passes all understanding.
Reflection: Jesus, the Prince of Peace, is our refuge when life feels overwhelming. As we lay our anxieties at His feet, we can trust His power to calm our hearts and fill us with His perfect peace.
Prayer: “Lord Jesus, thank You for being my peace in the midst of chaos. I surrender my worries to You today. Fill me with Your rest and joy this holiday season. Amen.”
